The keen reader might remember Dutch dream pop/shoegaze prodigy Honey I’m Home from an article we published not long ago, praising the group as “championing the haziest of shoegaze, crafting indie-laden gems with an incredibly contemporary livery”. Well, it’s now time for their first official, studio-quality single, ‘Wishful Thinking’. The track was already included in the previous live session, but it’s only now that we can fully appreciate a polished version of it, a piece that truly delves into Honey I’m Home’s eclectic formula.
Venturing deep into shoegaze and dream pop as much as they do in post-punk and grunge-like distortions, the Dutch outfit constantly oscillates between softness and fierceness, taking listeners on a roller-coaster of emotions and intensity. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, they explain: “Wishful Thinking explores the longing to reconnect with people no longer in your life, whether it’s a lost love or a departed family member. We tried to capture the intensity of that unfulfilled desire with a layered, dreamlike soundscape.”
