Heroic Rock Outfit The Project Returns with ‘Death of Me’

We are rather familiar with The Project. Just a little more than a year ago, we sat down with the band’s head honcho James Davis, to learn more about his artistry and future goals. We have also described their music as “highly peculiar, packing traditional guitar prowess into light and catchy tracks”. In fact, Davis boasts a successful career in the notable glam-rock outfit Shameless, an experience that is obviously still present in his blood today, especially when it comes to sonic references.

‘Death of Me’ is The Project’s latest effort, also their first single this year. In it, we find the same fierceness and striking rock character that we have come to know in the Californian outfit. A punchy, solid drum groove is the foundation for a massive wall of sound, with Gibson-esque guitar tones truly giving the track a nostalgic, timeless character. Dennis Hill is in charge of vocals this time around, further supported by Scott Shiflett, Erik Ferentinos and Jimmy DeAnda.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Death of Me’, Davis explains: “It crashes onto the scene with a sun-soaked, hook-heavy blend of power pop and rock ’n’ roll swagger. It’s a track tailor-made for speeding down the highway with the windows down—equal parts infectious melody and guitar grit.”
