Harry Eley Returns with Vulnerable Indie Piece ‘Happy Hate Story’

Following up on his debut effort ‘Thinking Of You’, Harry Eley now presents another lush indie banger, ‘Happy Hate Story’. Dropping the fast-paced, euphoric guitars so common in his first record, the Guildford-based young troubadour embarks on a melancholic, meaningful exploration of an intense relationship, highlighting how love can often leave space for negative feelings and resentment. Having just completed a nationwide tour touching his hometown, Liverpool, and Newcastle, Eley seems to be headed towards national recognition.

It’s not hard to understand his appeal to the British public: boasting vibrant, honest and evocative vocals, the young creative doesn’t shy away from vulnerability and musical catharsis, a quality that makes his music intelligible and relatable. Inspired by the likes of Oasis, John Mayer and The 1975, among others, Harry Eley bathes in Britpop and indie shores, not refraining from poppy melodies and heartwarming, wholesome lyricism.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Happy Hate Story’, Eley explains: “‘Happy Hate Story’ is about having a love-hate relationship with your partner. It reflects the highs and lows in a relationship. And how at one point, you can feel so connected to your partner and then next you feel like you only have yourself and you’re on your own.”
