Great Horned Owl Unveils Cathartic, Soothing Album ‘Longyear’

There’s a great deal of aural catharsis in ‘Longyear’. Moving at an elegant, measured pace, the record feels soothing and mellow, wrapping listeners into a heartwarming, meaningful artistic embrace, one that we wish would never end. Championing an eclectic and organic take on indie folk goodness, Great Horned Owl pens a real nuanced cut, an album that’s a joy to listen to, one that’s filled with introspection and hope. The listening experience is soft and expansive, with a blend of acoustic instruments and electronic textures taking the record into hazy territories.

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Great Horned Owl is the moniker of multi-instrumentalist and producer Vanderson Langjahr, a gifted musician and songwriter with an incredibly sensible creative genius. You see, everything – from the album’s lyricism to its mixes – is very well curated, creating a stream of artistic matter that’s cohesive and relevant. This allows us to truly connect with Langjahr’s work, work that’s personal and unique.

Delving deeper into ‘Longyear’, Great Horned Owl explains: “I’ve always been inspired and motivated by sound and words. Sometimes I go several months focusing on one and not seeking the other, and so it has taken me a long time to put them together in a way that I’m proud of. Although Longyear isn’t exactly a debut (I’ve been releasing music since 2012), it feels like one to me. I spent 2 years recording this album, but some of the songs were at least partially written a decade ago.”
