‘Done’ marks our point of entry into Grace de Gier’s artistic universe, a fearless place filled with bold guitars, gritty distortions, and the unmistakable, striking vocals of the Colombian-born, Netherland-based songstress. In fact, we shouldn’t probably be using the term ‘songstress’; far from it, de Gier is a rocker, a charming creative with a rather successful track record. Having gained attention from tastemakers such as Rolling Stone (Spanish edition), MTV Rock Edition, and El Tiempo, among others, Grace has had her fair share of celebration.
Now, she’s looking to hypnotise audiences worldwide once again, teaming up with multi-instrumentalist Edgar Grimaldos on a punchy, hard-hitting piece that’s a fuzzy as it is meaningful. Carried by de Gier’s euphoric vocals, ‘Done’ takes a hard look at the constraints and entrapment of a toxic relationship, seeking to inspire like-minded listeners in taking the first step in setting themselves free. The record’s uplifting character goes a long way in reaffirming one’s independence and resilience.
Delving deeper behind the song, Grace explains: “Done is an anthem for anyone who’s been trapped and finally decides to say ‘No more.’ It’s about liberation, healing, and taking control of your life”. Mastered by multiple Grammy-winning engineer Adam Ayan, ‘Done’ follows up on the project’s previous effort ‘Your Name’, making this a pretty productive year for the Amsterdam-based talent.
