The keen reader will remember Gaby Duboisjoli from the feature we did on ‘J’veux des Frissons’, a mesmerising and ethereal gem she released last year. At the time, we were fascinated by her genreless artistry, favouring a kaleidoscopic sonic scenario where fairy vocals float in and out of kaleidoscopic soundscapes. The whole experience was lyrical as much as it was musical, also thanks to charming French lyrics.
Since then, Duboisjoli had remained silent, busy developing herself as an artist at the prestigious Tileyard Education in London, one of today’s biggest creative hubs for popular music. Her short hiatus came to an end earlier this month, thanks to the release of a pretty special remix of ‘J’veux des Frissons’, the first of four reworks commissioned by the French native.
Re-imagined by the wise and visionary mind of fellow London producer Häx Han, the song takes on haunting, club-oriented clothes, also sharing a certain cinematic quality. It is in these settings that we get to fully appreciate the magnitude of Gaby Duboisjoli’s vocals: treated with less reverb than the original track, they make clear the potential she has to offer. Balanced between techno, trip-hop and avant-garde, the track stands out as a hypnotic, industrious and electrifying slice of goodness.
Overall, a fitting remix for ‘J’veux des Frissons’, we are keen to hear what’s next. Recommended!
