If you are looking for a cathartic, transformative and cinematic record, you just found it. We had a taste of it earlier on, in January. Back then, FRUM unveiled a single from the album, ‘Rise’, a nugget of liminal goodness we described as “initiating an introspective journey on the unsuspecting listener – a journey that’s perhaps melancholic, but also healing and empowering.” Well, it turns out that FRUM’s musical universe is way, way wider and expansive, with ‘Whirlpool’ fully showcasing the Faroese songstress’ boundary-pushing vision.
Out now via Tutl Records, ‘Whirlpool’ is a deeply committed work of art. Crafted over years of hard work, the record saw FRUM teaming up with female producers, navigating gloomy atmospheres, abstract soundscapes and a healthy slice of leftfield electronica in the process. The result is absolutely immense. The listening experience is highly introspective and meaningful, with personal and evocative lyricism sparking a heartfelt emotional reckoning in whoever is sensitive and vulnerable enough to connect with it.
Known by day as Jenný Kragesteen, FRUM has now fully entered her glorious era, slotting into the world of cinematic and alternative pop with elegance and lusciousness. ‘Sun Aura’ is one of the standout tracks in the album, also earmarked as a focus single. Boundary-pushing and rather magical, the piece presents a striking example of FRUM’s glimmering, texture-packed vocals.
