Forgottensong Long for Conciliation in ‘Shirts and Skins’

A vibrant, wholesome piece, ‘Shirts and Skins’ benefits from an acoustic-driven arrangement, a slice of warmth and comfort that’s somewhat a departure from Forgottensong’s more polished, luscious sound. Yet, while the record might start on an understated note, it then gradually increases its intensity, exploding into the electrifying guitar solos the Barcelona-based duo has gotten us used to.

Forgottensong’s raw, earthy vocal tone is a perfect match for such a vivid and evocative piece. Built on classic rock, blues and Americana influences, ‘Shirts and Skins’ then proceeds towards a stark look at society’s ever-rising polarization. Longing for a mutual understanding and reconciliation, the talented troubadours inspire the listeners to fleet the walls of ideology and converse with each other.

Scott Allyn and Mark Doyle also self-produced a visual counterpart for ‘Shirts and Skins’, mainly featuring a close-up of Scott’s interpreting the song. As they explain: “The raw, unpolished aesthetic only amplifies the discomfort; its jagged, almost disorienting visual effects reflect the narrator’s inner turmoil. He’s battling someone he’s meant to love, locked in a conflict that has left him worn and weary.”
