Judging by what we hear in ‘That Was That’, Flo Crowe and the Dilemmas hold a great deal of potential. Originally from Cornwall, the talented group has been picked up by bold Brighton-based label Little Genius Recordings. ‘That Was That’ is the project’s latest effort, a soothing, playful and vibrant piece balanced between indie pop and gentler folk tones, all organized with a certain elegance. Introduced by a fuzzy guitar and evocative, layered vocals, ‘That Was That’ is rather hypnotising and catchy in its aural livery.
Melodies are simple and mellow, the perfect match for Flo Crowe and the Dilemmas’ whimsical, ethereal vibe. A minimal beat enters the picture after a healthy minute, building intensity while leaving ample space for the group’s signature vocal arrangements, a unique feature that makes the project stand out. Flo Crowe guides such an effort with lead vocals and keys, well supported by Cerys Wilcox on soprano vocals and Paige Mullin on alto vocals.
Grace C.G. takes care of guitar duties and backing vocals, and Moses Seaber complete the lineup on drums. Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘That Was That’, the band explain: “Music is how we recharge and reconnect – with ourselves and each other, it’s an umbrella that protects us from the storm going on outside. Our debut single celebrates the connection. It’s us opening our umbrella and inviting people to come under it and stand with us for a while.”
