Ezra Vancil Writes About Love and Heartbreak in Wholesome Single ‘Babylove’

Evoking the Folk and Americana gods, Ezra Vancil appears to us as a wholesome, old-school creative, a committed singer and songwriter with a heightened sense of storytelling and relatable wisdom. Finding a heartwarming home in acoustically driven, organic material, the American troubadour stands by his guitar and gritty, earthy vocals, delivering a listening experience unlike any other. ‘Babylove’ is the perfect evidence of it. Embracing a dramatic Folk flair, Vancil layers a melancholic and cinematic string section over his usual Americana character, a winning formula.

Part of an overarching project, ‘Babylove’ is taken from Ezra’s upcoming double album ‘Morning & Midnight’, a long, thematic body of work that focuses on the full cycle of love, encompassing both its positive and negative instances. An expansive yet relatable offering, the album promises to deliver a vulnerable, poignant songwriting charge, as Vancil slowly unfurls the various stages of attraction and the inevitable heartbreak.

For anyone interested, ‘Morning & Midnight’ is available in limited edition vinyl and CD formats, alongside a companion book of poetry and writing penned by Vancil himself. Each song is also being released as a single every month or so. Delving deeper into ‘Babylove’, the Dallas-based troubadour explains: “The song is about love gone wrong — really wrong — where heartbreak turns into anger, loss, and even self-destruction. Writing it was a kind of release valve, a way to get those feelings out before they consumed me. It’s the first single from my double album Morning & Midnight.”
