Explores the Retro-Flavoured Japanese Universe of colacola

Fancy a journey into nostalgic territories? We certainly do, and that’s why – upon discovering colacola – we couldn’t refrain from sharing the sonic goodness he has to offer. Emerging from Japan, the talented visionary champions a very peculiar musical outlook, mainly balanced on 80s style Japanese music and vaporwave tones. ‘foreign lavennew’ is the perfect example of that, a nuanced, kaleidoscopic and exciting gem with a knack for retro nostalgia. We’d argue that – although its references are firmly planted in the past – the record manages to be almost futuristic, by borrowing an already established musical recipe and augmenting it.

The results are for everyone to hear: introduced by a dazzling cascade of bright and punchy synthetisers, the bouncy and uplifting single provides the perfect framework for dreamy Japanese vocals, evoking a strong sense of City-Pop and early 80s euphoria.

There’s a certain amount of escapism to be enjoyed when listening to ‘foreign lavennew’. colacola knows it well, delivering a track that works wonders in helping listeners finding a way out from the current craziness of world events. You can have that too: just wait until night, turn on those led lights, and press play on ‘foreign lavennew’.
