Evol Walks Return with Ramones Cover ‘Pet Sematary’

We appreciate when artists are bold and daring, shuffling their usual artistic script to try new things and opening up their horizons. Evol Walks has done exactly that! We previously featured ‘Sleeping with a Ghost’ in our publication, a gentle acoustic version of a past hit; now, the Australian project returns with an acoustic rework of ‘Pet Sematary’ by Ramones, paving the pathway to an upcoming EP in the same vein.

It’s interesting: leaving behind their heavy rock background, Evol Walks manage to showcase their flexibility and musical prowess, guided by the talented Leah Martin-Brown, heading the group with fierceness and taste. Her vocals are particularly dreamy and mesmerizing, making for an intense and emotional listening experience. Over a gentle bed of acoustic guitars and long string sections, Martin-Brown delivers evocative lyrics with unmatched charisma. Before you know it, ‘Pet Sematary’ turns from a punk-rock staple into a vibrant ballad.

Delving into the inspiration behind the cover, the Australian songstress explains: “I’ve always loved the Ramones and their energy, but I wanted to explore a different side of their music. ‘Pet Sematary’ is such a musically upbeat song with quite serious lyrics, and I thought it would be intriguing to give it a mournful, ethereal twist.”
