Is Sofia Gobbi about to blow up? While the project hasn’t fully tipped yet, we reckon it’s just a matter of time. The rising Italian-American artist has all the right cards to become a cultural phenomenon, from her playful, relatable and catchy lyricism (as ‘That Ass!’ showcased earlier this summer) to her rowdy, fuzzy pop imprint, a sonic choice that puts her right in between the mainstream and indie universes. ‘Idk’ is the strongest evidence of that.
Produced with frequent collaborator Andrea Mastroiacovo, ‘Idk’ sees Gobbi embrace a fierce and crunchy pop anthem, a simple yet vibrant cut that’s as hypnotic and empowering as it could be. The London-based songstress’s vocal tone is convincing as always, capable of all-out, loud choruses but also poised, gentler verses. Whichever way you look at it, there’s no doubt that Sofia holds the right amount of drive and charisma.
Delving deeper into the single, Gobbi explains: “This song came from that feeling of being scared when something good happens, when part of you can’t help but wonder how long it will last before it’s taken away. I kept returning to the parallels between falling in love and being a criminal – the nerves, the sweaty palms, the knot in your stomach, and that lingering fear that what you’ve gotten away with might be stripped from you.”
