This time around, the feeling is to have struck gold. Not sure how we stumbled upon Paoline Magnus, but she has something rather special to say. Hailing from Belgium, the young producer, creative, and songwriter is still relatively unknown, yet her material is impressively mature and dynamic, a unique blend of leftfield electronica, hazy soundscapes and angelic vocals. Magnus is adamant about mentioning the influence Clams Casino had on her; the resulting aural matter confirms it all.
‘Flowers in the Machine’ EP is incredibly evocative and otherworldly, and Paoline seems to love experimenting with her vocals, building cathartic layers of harmonies and reverb-packed textures that feel limitless and dreamy. ‘Heroin’ is one of the standout cuts in the EP, and as such is less club-oriented than the rest, instead orienting towards alt-pop-esque gritty extravaganza. There’s a heightened sense of moodiness in it, a celestial battle between light and darkness… what more could you wish for?
Delving deeper into her own style, Magnus explains: “Experimental Electronic Pop, downtempo with dark and dreamy vibes. Inspired by Clams Casino beats, but with more glitch elements”.
