Some great things happen in ‘GIRL SIZED DREAMS’. The latest effort by Tokyo-born, Melbourne-based creative Elle Shimada, the piece benefits from the help of fellow Latvian-British popstar LEGDZINA, resulting in a bold explosion of charisma, sultriness and experimental genius. A celebrated, boundary-pushing violinist, producer, curator and DJ, Shimada conceives music as an holistic effort, excelling at a wide variety of roles but most importantly holding a truly unique and clear artistic vision.
‘GIRL SIZED DREAMS’ perfectly fits such a striking ethos, having been developed by an all-female team both at an aural and visual level. Taken from Elle’s upcoming album ‘LULLABY FOR THE RIVER IN MY BODY’, the record is particularly meaningful and relevant, “challenging the ways women and queer bodies are told to shrink themselves”. Bonus points for the live version that’s out there on YouTube, an immersive and kaleidoscopic experience that sees the piece being arranged in a slightly more organic and vibrant way, something that we appreciate very much.
