Following up on her Christmas-related seasonal endeavour, rising country songstress Emma Forgette has now returned with a heartfelt, poignant country-pop cut, ‘The Text I Never Sent’, an intense, evocative piece that showcases the highly committed artistry and lyrical mastery the Florida-based creative has to offer. We are rather familiar with Forgette, since she’s been featured on Mesmerized a bunch of times already. Yet, every time we write about her, it gives us the chance to discover a new side of the project, be it Emma’s powerful, luscious vocals or her personal, meaningful songwriting.
On this occasion, ‘The Text I Never Sent’ reveals a rather personal and heartwarming theme, with Forgette describing the grief of losing her grandfather and the pain of not being able to say a proper goodbye. The song channels such a powerful ethos and transforms it into a metaphorical emotional journey, one where the ‘text message’ acts as a catalyst for processing a heavy loss, remembering anything left unsaid. Forgette’s vocal delivery is rather perfect for such a tender, brooding song.
We suspect listeners will heavily relate to it; after all, everyone loses a loved one sooner or later. Reiterating her aural elegance and her bold country allure, Emma does a good job of framing an emotional message into a punchy arrangement. ‘The Text I Never Sent’ is out now via Bad Jeu Jeu Records / CDX Records / The Orchard (Sony Music).
