E.G. Phillips Unveils Intimate, Confessional Album ‘Signals in the Dark’

Doubling down on crepuscular, hypnotic jazz flavourings and deep, resonant vocals, E.G. Phillips has now returned with a wider release, ‘Signals in the Dark’.

The keen reader might remember E.G. Phillips from a feature we published in summer 2025, praising ‘From The Corner Of My Eye’ as “vivid, and minimalistic, yet elegant and gentle… not your average listening experience”. It turns out that such a statement also serves as a global manifesto for the project. Doubling down on crepuscular, hypnotic jazz flavourings and deep, resonant vocals, Phillips has now returned with a wider release, ‘Signals in the Dark’

The album (or EP, depending on who you ask) has already been partly unveiled earlier this year in the form of a few singles, yet it’s interesting to explore the six tracks as a cohesive offering, especially because it reveals something deeper about E.G. Phillips. You see, his vocal delivery is strikingly haunting and personal, and it all reads as a series of confessions, inspired storytelling that’s not flashy or anthemic, instead reclaiming time and attention.

Delving deeper into the highly intimate and confessional ethos that propels the record, Phillips explains: “In the age of the attention economy, being sparse, using space — and most egregious of all — taking time, all feel like acts of rebellion”. He’s quite right on that. ‘Signals In The Dark’ invites a more grounded and laidback space for reflection and personal expression. We love seeing that, and it certainly speaks volumes about the prolific and elegant inspiration that guides the American troubadour.
