It’s been a striking year for merchant so far. From being played by Sparrow & Barbossa at Coachella’s iconic Yuma Tent, to being listed as one of DJ Mag’s Emerging Artists, the London-based Afro House producer seems to have finally found an artistic formula that works, with an eclectic and euphoric sound that’s part tribal and part modern EDM. ‘Azizam’ is the strongest evidence of that.
Teaming up with powerhouse vocalist Jordan Grace (himself a constant fixture in the electronic scene, thanks to collaboration with Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki, and Armin van Buuren), merchant borrows the famous Ed Sheeran hit and gives it an eloquent, carefree and uplifting flair. The result is a perfect record for the summer season, with infectious grooves and meaningful lyricism. We suspect it will attract large crowds on the dancefloor!
Grace’s vocals are perfect and lush as always, delivering the American creative signature’s warmth and expressive tone. It is a perfect match for merchant’s vibrant sonic character. The talented DJ is now set to appear at Nashville’s Deep Tropics Music Festival, igniting the next step of a clearly burgeoning career.
