Oscillating between folk-leaning pieces and more experimental, electronic-flavoured bits, ‘Wolf Country’ sparks a refreshing listening experience without sounding too unconventional or boundary-pushing. Instead, the American songstress manages to blend tradition and futurism in one cohesive package, with points added for the wondrous nature of her stunning vocals.
In fact, we’d go as far as defining ‘Wolf Country’ as the perfect outlet for escapism and daydreaming. Behind the homonymous project – Wolf Country – we find Columbus, OH-based creative Alexa Economos, showcasing her songwriting prowess in ten expansive, tender episodes. Even just listening to the album’s first three tracks is going to help towards understanding the project’s wide-ranging references. Whichever way you look at it, ‘Wolf Country’ is a worthy discovery, one that’s lyrically built on American psychoanalyst Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ best-selling book ‘Women Who Run with the Wolves’.
