discover pets’ tender, introspective artistry in ‘elevator’

Moving with tender, gentle charisma, ‘elevator’ unfurls a listening experience that’s part nostalgic and part melancholic. Evoking the feeling of unrest following a romantic breakup, the track forces itself into a state of heightened introspection, capturing the spirit of surrender and failure that often arises from feeling lost and lonely. Yet, the record’s aural matter still makes it all rather heartwarming and vibrant, with an outro that’s potentially hopeful and resolving – as if the main character was about to suddenly find themselves.

Behind ‘elevator’, we find American outfit pets. Made up of brothers Jonny and Nick Campolo, the project has recently released a striking and long album, ‘🌀❓‬(Spiral Question Mark)’, a deep and nuanced body of work that certainly deserves everyone’s undivided attention.

Delving deeper into ‘elevator’, Jonny Campolo explains: “I’m generally in love with life. I’m happy. Ask my girlfriend of 14 years, now my wife. But ‘elevator’ is a longing, drawn-out memory. The sad kind of vivid. Not a breakup; the song is a breakdown. Being slapped with words. The feeling of unrequited love and its destructive honesty. Or, being in love with waiting. Like you’ve arrived on your floor, but the door stays closed, and you’re caught just standing there.”
