Craig Small Music Debuts with Intense, Alluring Single ‘Sunkiss’

Marking Australian creative Craig Small Music’s first release, ‘Sunkiss’ moves with understated intensity and a heightened sense of sultriness, delivering a listening experience that’s wondrous, curious, yet rather mysterious and nocturnal. From a sonic and lyrical standpoint, Craig Small Music doesn’t seek to reinvent the wheel: his artistic output is icy and striking, but familiar and comfy. Drawing from electronic pop with a funky allure, the Katoomba-based talent pens material that’s simple yet valuable and meaningful.

Moreover, ‘Sunkiss’ is relatable, evoking introspective, love-filled storytelling paying a tribute to a loved one. Or the idea of a loved one. As Craig explains: “The lyrics tell of a love or infatuation where the male protagonist is heavily in love with a female”. Inspired by the likes of Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Faith No More, among others, ‘Sunkiss’ embraces a dualistic ethos; on one side, you’ve got your vibrant, groovy aural livery, while on the other side, we find a great deal of deep songwriting.

It’s a delicate balance, one that seems to work well under the artistic guidance of Craig Small Music. A truly DIY effort, ‘Sunkiss’ was recorded by Craig himself in his home studio, and we must say that he did a good job, especially for such a homegrown production. As the Aussie musician reiterates: “This song is the culmination of twelve months of work after recording numerous demos, until I found the right sound”.
