We step into Nicole Huff’s bold, elegant and fierce artistic universe thanks to ‘Dancing The Night Away’, a song that’s both evocative and hard-hitting, constantly oscillating between striking, all-out choruses and more intimate cinematic sections. The relatable lyricism is catchy and digestible, with romantic imagery and deep introspection making the song quite meaningful and relevant. Huff’s vocals are the perfect match for such a pop wonder; moving with confidence and charisma, Nicole’s malleable tone draws the listeners in almost instantly.
Released back in August, ‘Dancing The Night Away’ is taken from the Canadian songstress’ overarching EP ‘Who We Are’, an uplifting body of work that’s quite eclectic and even nostalgic, drawing heaps from the early ‘2000s pop tradition but not afraid to incorporate hip-hop influences and more stripped-back production. Bordering R&B, but also dance-oriented territories, Huff mentions some of the pop greats as important influences, the likes of Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande.
That all makes sense; we suspect that millennials will relate to ‘Who We Are’ a tad more than Gen Z folks, although it’s certainly not a written rule. Talking about Ariana Grande, ‘Dancing The Night Away’ features a whistle tone, once again showcasing Nicole’s heightened vocal skills.
