Discover Millie Blooms Fierce New R’n’B Anthem

We had already featured Millie Blooms on our pages, in occasion of her previous effort ‘DNA’. Hailing from Wales, the British talent has been championing an eclectic sound that draws inspiration from 90’s hip-hop all the way to modern trap sensibilities. What’s more relevant though, it’s the depth of her lyricism, constantly exploring the hypocrisies of our society, especially when it comes to gender equality and power balances in the music industry. It’s refreshing to hear music that’s meaningful and with character, and Bloom can deliver both copiously.

Her latest record – ‘Bounce Ya Necks’ –  takes the shape of an exciting jump into vintage hip-hop and R’n’B, navigating haunting vibes and charismatic melodies. Produced by Blooms herself and longtime collaborator Dan Fry, the single is the latest evidence of the Welsh talent’s musical prowess, a truly independent artist, from the songwriting process to the mastering stage.

What’s important to remember, is the inspiration behind ‘Bounce Ya Necks’. As a mature artist, Blooms has acquired a wealth of experience in the industry, promptly recognising gender and age biases, when they arise. As she describes: Our bodies, age and attitudes shouldn’t be up for trade when working hard to define our careers, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been told by a pale, white, stale, male that “I’m getting too old to pursue a music artist career, that I need to be thinner and even that I’m a business risk if I have children. As it happens, I’m 41, size 8-10 and chose not to have a family and I’m still feeling the pressure of being made to justify my worth… It’s not right.”

Fierce and empowered, Millie Blooms is not afraid to let her music resonate far and wide, connecting with listeners that need to hear what she has to say. Change is difficult, but always worth it.
