Another single extracted from the project’s previous EP ‘HotDamn’, ‘Rise’ feels rather gloomy and nuanced.
Introduced with a gritty synth arpeggio, the track slowly blooms into a hard-hitting, bouncy hip-hop beat, boasting massive electronic-coded production and catchy, sharp lyricism. Lil’ Mike’s futuristic vocals are wrapped in shiny effects, making them pop out of the mix with heightened epicness. On this occasion, he teamed up with beatmaker Mova.
Delving deeper into the lyrical ethos that propels the record, Lil’ Mike explains: “I went on social media, and I saw another story of children getting molested by predators. This is when I got the inspiration for the lyrics, talking about fighting them and never stopping talking about it.” We appreciate the meaningful allure that lies beneath an otherwise electrifying and moody record; it’s clear that Lil’ Mike shines in his rap flow as much as he does in his songwriting.
