Chris Pellnat Shares Latest EP ‘Reign Down’

‘Reign Down’ EP signals a return to more homely territories, weaving into folk-rock and pop-leaning shores with unmatched charisma and nostalgic flair.

As we discover Chris Pellnat, it’s more and more obvious how we cannot really put him into a creative box. Championing a heightened genre-bending allure, the American musician and composer has spent the past couple of years collaborating with Japanese singer Saky and Moroccan singer Catalus, as well as recording and writing his brand new EP, ‘Reign Down’

Out now, the EP signals a return to more homely territories, weaving into folk-rock and pop-leaning shores with unmatched charisma and nostalgic flair. From a lyrical standpoint, the album embraces a certain escapism, exploring introspection and love-themed storytelling with a keen whimsical character, if you will. We’d go so far as to define Chris Pellnat’s songwriting as a bit of a fever dream; meaningful, yes, but also slightly psychedelic.

Delving deeper into the eclectic artistic ethos that ultimately led to ‘Reign Down’, Pellnat explains: “The danger in dabbling in non-western musical traditions is that you could indulge in cultural appropriation, whether intentional or not. I was conscious of this, and I think my work with these singers stands on its own, without cringe. I can only hope that Reign Down, too, rings true.” We appreciate Chris’ authenticity; he knows exactly where he stands, and he’s not afraid of a challenge. ‘Reign Down’ takes him back into familiar territories, but for how long?
