Aiding an otherworldly, cathartic listening experience, ‘Myth of Tomorrow’ is unlike anything you have heard before. The perfect meeting point between Western electronica and Japanese tradition, the record showcases Erika Dohi‘s avant-garde artistry, a unique and eclectic aural vision that has recently flourished into the project’s second album, carrying the same name as the aforementioned single.
Enriched by the creative support of Metropolis Ensembles, the Osaka-born and New York-based pianist draws inspiration from a Taro Okamoto mural, making ‘Myth of Tomorrow’ a boundary-pushing piece, a sui generis composition that exists in its own space-time continuum. That’s the beauty of it: we are in uncharted territories, fully surrendering ourselves to Erika Dohi’s sonic vision.
Delving deeper into the piece, Dohi explains: “For me, the song reflects on resilience and regeneration in the face of life’s relentless cycles. Through its lyrics, I explore the contradictions of modern existence; the struggle to find happiness in repetition, the unspoken burdens we carry, and the illusions we chase in pursuit of fulfilment. Yet, amidst all of this, the song also asks us to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the beauty in the everyday: the sun rising without fail, the moon’s quiet waning, the resilience of a dandelion growing through cracks in asphalt.”
