Diamond Blacc: “I have personally learned the importance of consistency, faith and taking life one day at a time”

You might be mistaken in considering Diamond Blacc just another rapper. Emerging from Philadelphia, the American talent engages in a holistic artistic perspective on his art, seeking to inspire, uplift and empower. Debuting in 2020, Blacc has so far showcased the ability to innovate, by writing hip-hop gems with eclecticism and refined taste. It paid off, looking at the interesting number of streams on all major services.

‘DEMONS’ is the Philadelphia rapper’s latest effort, a fast and bouncy trap jewel featuring a very electronica-infused production. In it, the keen listener will discover Blacc’s signature tight, high-intensity lyrical flow, quickly jumping from word to word like the most skilled of poets.

Intrigued by the project, we caught up with Diamond Blacc to find out more about his artistry and future goals… Interview below.

Hey Diamond Blacc, how is it going? some of our readers might not be familiar with your project, how would you describe yourself, in a few words?

Hello everyone and nice to meet you! Thank you for checking out my interview. My name is Diamond Blacc and I am here to make tracks that get put on the map! I wouldn’t describe myself as the boy next door, but I am that chocolate drop around the corner you should know about! Contrary to my music, I myself am a pretty low-key, observant type of guy. I stick to my faith, my music, and the love around me in an effort to spread goodness to others. I love to see people smiling and feeling good! I hope my music can do just that for listeners if nothing else!

Your current work is the result of a long journey; What first drew you to making music?

I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. I have always had a special connection to music, which I think was first born in my childhood. I grew up watching my dad build a successful record company from the ground up. I never would have thought years later that music would have called me in such a way! I am so thankful!

If you had the opportunity to pick any artists in the world for a collaboration, who would be your first choice? (and second choice, perhaps?)

I always answer this question cautiously. I feel I am too new as an artist to start naming collaborations with such esteemed artists. However, if I could have the chance to meet any artists in the world it would be Chaka Khan and Elton John.

You recently released a punchy, fast-paced and meaningful single, ‘DEMONS’. While we can all relate to having a ghost in our emotional closets, what does the song mean to you personally?

For me personally, “DEMONS” is the song of my life thus far. It is a summation of the “demons” and extreme adversity I have endured in my life. Regardless of what you are faced, I have personally learned the importance of consistency, faith and taking life one day at a time. “DEMONS” is a reminder to all that you CAN and have everything inside of you to overcome and do ANYTHING! HAVE FAITH AND NEVER GIVE UP!

Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

ALONE! I have actually never written music with anyone. I know the time is coming so I am really trying to open my mind to the changes coming in my career. Teamwork makes the dream work!

What motivates you to write and record music? What does creating art mean to you?

I am motivated by life and my experiences in this world. Music is how I practice being intentional, honest and direct. Honestly, I make the best music under duress or pressure. Creating art in my opinion, is giving physical tangible life to the ideas, ideals, desires, passions, experiences and emotions that live within each of us. The ways, modes and means by which you cultivate what is inside of you into a physical tangible entity is how art is created.

Artistically speaking, what challenges have the last two years presented you with?

Well, despite the fact that I started my music career during the pandemic, I would say the majority of the challenges I have faced are with people in the industry. I operate in truth and honesty and unfortunately, others DO NOT. This is a fact of life and extends beyond art. The challenges make me wiser, braver, grateful and experienced!

What are the next steps for your project? Anything exciting on the horizon?

I have so much music written! I have a few kinks to settle and situate creatively, personally, legally and musically. Surprises coming 😉 Thank you for this interview and I wish everyone reading this nothing but goodness!
