The keen reader will gladly remember Mystic, CT-based shoegaze outfit Delta of Venus. Writing about their previous effort, we proudly declared: “We love ‘Disengaged b/w Slipping’ more than we probably should.” Championing hazy, libertine post-punk and shoegaze elements, the Ellery Twining-driven group does a good job of crafting dreamy and ethereal guitar soundscapes that are not too heavy or chaotic, instead maintaining a heightened wholesome and gentle outlook. ‘Intertwined’ is Delta of Venus’ latest effort.
Once again, they navigate a familiar formula for them, with stunning female vocals layered on top of elegant, cathartic, and spacious guitar tones. Drums are rather feathery and light, the perfect match for a piece that also tries to be lo-fi, or simply quite minimal and unbothered. The release also comes with an acoustic version of the track, an idea that emerged from bassist Matt Tarbox, with Ellery Twining picking up an acoustic guitar and surprisingly remaining on theme.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the double single, Delta of Venus explain: “‘Intertwined’ is a musing on existing in a chaotic world, and finding empathy for even people you have ‘never met’. We like to explore our sonic palette with rich new textures that complement our sound while expanding it.”
