Just released, ‘Nostalgia’ marks the debut EP of London-based musician and songwriter Dame Haff. The record functions as an elegant way to introduce his music, which, to no particular surprise, is really good! Active as a bassist across England and New York, and boasting militancy in JENTL and Jose Junior, Haff is now taking matters into his own hands, crafting four tracks with a deeply nostalgic and hazy core.
Venturing into dream pop, psychedelia and retro influences, the EP delivers a synth-laden, feverish stream of aural goodness, one that also touches upon new wave territories and hints of 80s allure. The record is then crowned by Dame Haff’s deep, dark vocals, a haunting and hypnotic tone that’s a perfect match for such a vibrant music collection. Produced and mixed by Oli Deakin, the record also benefits from Tom Marsh’s drumming skills. The rest of the instruments have been performed by Haff himself.
Delving deeper into the eclectic lyrical ethos that propels the record, we are told: “The EP blends humour with ironic melancholy. Its tracks explore the quietly absurd sadness of an idyllic gap year in ‘Brazil’, to the self-inflicted complications of romance in ‘Easy Lover’. Elsewhere, ‘Charlie’s Music’ muses on growing up too cool, while ‘Wedding’ brings things home with a more exposed, reflective tone.”
