We are rather familiar with English producer and sonic alchemist Consequential, but he’s not been on our pages since last summer. That’s why we are thrilled to see him back with new music. ‘I’m Alive’ is the perfect evidence of that, a four-track EP that well showcases the cultural and genre-based melting-pot that helps the project reach its zenith. It’s a fascinating journey through nostalgia and futurism, if you will.
What can one expect from ‘I’m Alive’? Imagine the most vibrant, uplifting and epic jungle out there… now imagine it boasting a heightened liquid quality, a visionary charge that acts as a meeting point between mainstream EDM and more researched leftfield influences. Influences are rather eclectic, with pop melodism weaving into soulful R&B samples and harder dance-inducing breakdowns. It’s a triumph of modern electronica and dancefloor-coded culture that’s hard to ignore.
Delving deeper into the creative ethos that propels the record, Consequential explains: “Lots of artists try to replicate others, follow a trend or just copy or even ask AI to make it for them. I try to fill in the gaps. Drawing on influences from all kinds of genres and putting them into more accessible drum and bass. The pieces came together over the course of a year or so. Each one made, stripped back, remade, tweaked and pushed into the final release.” We appreciate the strong, authentic ethos that governs Consequential’s artistry. It’s a precious quality to have in this day and age.
