We are rather familiar with Cody Piper, so much so that we instantly knows what to expect from him. If ‘Ode to a Lost Love’ was a “wonderfully imaginative and tender tune that’s a joy to listen to”, latest effort ‘Run Home’ embraces a slightly more nostalgic and wholesome ethos, drawing from power-pop with timeless elegance and the usual Piper-esque dramatic flair. You see, anything Cody makes always shares a certain musical character, almost embodying a cinematic allure.
‘Run Home’ confirms it, especially thanks to its Beatle-esque pianos and vocals, the heartwarming, playful melodies and an overall feeling of whimsy, evoking a keen sense of grandeur. Piper’s malleable and precise vocal tone is incredibly energetic, yet also gentle and poised. It’s a fine balance, one that we would describe as “emotionally intense”. The single is part of an upcoming album release, ‘Revealed’, a large body of work that’s been in the plans since 2020.
Hailing from Pittsburgh, Cody Piper seems to have found his niche, or at least a ballpark formula that well adapts to his aural features. A songwriter, singer and producer, he delves deeper on ‘Run Home’: “I tried to write this song based on the feelings of anger/betrayal of being cheated on. I’ve never had that happen to me, so it’s one of the many songs I’ve written where I try to imagine how I would actually feel in a moment like that, rather than having my own experience to go off of. Kind of trying to tap into the situations of people/friends I know who have experienced these things.”
