Chris Ianuzzi Experiments with AI in New Music Video for ‘Lonesome Highway Superstar’

While technology informs every aspect of our lives nowadays, music and art have been relatively unscathed by it, at least at their purest core. One example of how we could potentially implement it in a musical and visual context arrives from sonic explorer Chris Ianuzzi. Based in New York, the talented composer/ producer champions a cerebral and complex sound labyrinth, painting abstract aural scenarios where frequencies interlace each other at a fast pace, with frequent use of mangled human voice.

Ianuzzi’s latest record was released earlier this year; ‘Maze’ was an 11-track album, containing new and past materials. The interesting part though, and the more technologically relevant, surfaces once we look at Chris’ latest music video, an AI rendition of ‘Lonesome Highway Superstar’. In it, the American musician teams up with Ethem Serkan Sökmen and İlke Köse using Disco Diffusion and Stable Diffusion AI image generation tools.

The results are trippy and perhaps surprising. The listener is pushed into an alternative universe where galaxies are ever-changing and full of colours, an interdimensional reality where things are rarely what they seem to be.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Lonesome Highway Superstar’, Ianuzzi explains: “It’s a journey on the course that life is making. Starts in a dream state: “I walk in my sleep, I walk to the promised land, all the people I meet can’t help me to understand why”.
