Ceyeo Returns with Expressive Third Album ‘Together They Were Nothing’

‘Together They Were Nothing’ marks our point of entry into Ceyeo’s artistic universe. It’s quite a special place, one that doesn’t seek to follow any pre-conceived rules or mainstream trends. Instead, it’s strongly authentic and wholesome, a slice of pure personal expression as envisioned by the Chicago-based creative. A talented singer, songwriter, and producer, Ceyeo’s unique quality lies in his gritty, raw vocals, a noisy and dark tone that completely dominates the underlying arrangements. Threading the fine line between nostalgic rock and eclectic pop-leaning goodness, ‘Together They Were Nothing’ is the perfect example of that.

Packed with seven intense and diverse episodes, the album is Ceyeo’s third one to date, originally released almost a year ago. It’s still very relevant: such is the American artist’s uniqueness. ‘Confession’ welcomes listeners into the record, a rather melodic and evocative piece with soulful and potent female guest vocals. ‘I Can Tell’ follows up with more stripped-back and tender sonic energy, a nugget of indie-folk elegance that’s hard to forget. ‘Love is Angry’ is surprisingly funky and fusion, another evidence of Ceyeo’s euphoric artistry.

Delving deeper into the album’s lyricism, Ceyeo explains: “It’s focused on the themes of anger, anxiety and despair due to unhealthy relationships, greed and the lack of unity in the world.” Such meaningful lyricism is delivered with surprising intimacy, as the American artist’s vocals feel incredibly melancholic and nostalgic, yet present and charismatic.
