Carley Varley Channels Early 2000s Alt-Rock Energy in ‘Somehow I’m Alive’

The keen reader might remember Carley Varley, talented British artist with a knack for honest lyricism and pop-punk energy. Writing about her previous release ‘Better Without Me’ – Varley’s return to rock territories – we proudly declared: “Boasting a strong singer-songwriter background, Varley possesses the artistic finesse required to paint a charged lyrical scenery, a place where listeners can reflect and perhaps find a piece of themselves in it.”

Now, the Winchester resident returns with what’s shaping up to be a confirmation of her artistic journey. ‘Somehow I’m Alive’ keeps the same punchy and rocky energy we got to know previously, while expanding it into alternative realms. Lyrically, the song seeks to be a raw and emotional exploration of anxiety and the feeling of being trapped in a cycle of negative thoughts.

Carley’s powerful vocals soar as drums, bass and guitars provide a distorted and unfiltered accompaniment to the track’s powerful message. Reminiscent of early 2000s alt-rock outfits, ‘Somehow I’m Alive’ combines sonic throwback with modern storytelling, while retaining the relatable, catchy and ‘pop’ quality of Varley’s songwriting.

Recommended! Look out for Carla Varley’s upcoming EP, ‘Homesick’, releasing later this year.
