Out now, ‘Tomodachi ☆ Kimitachi’ marks a crucial milestone in Carδamo‘s solid career. Collecting singles released over the past two years, the mixtape provides a striking look into the project’s burgeoning, kaleidoscopic artistry, also showcasing its massive future potential. On this occasion, Carδamo has received support from the Roundhouse Resident Artist Program and Youth Music’s NXT Gen Fund.
As we embrace ‘Tomodachi ☆ Kimitachi’s electrifying outlook, the overall mood shifts into boldness and loud fierceness, with Carδamo exploring contemporary electro-pop territories and club-ready dance allure. Tracks such as ‘Cat & Mouse’ and ‘Over It’ are tight and intense, delivering a gritty, pumped-up sound. Yet, attentive listeners will be able to catch glimpses of Carδamo’s roots in the classical and jazz world, with evocative melodies and leftfield offerings (such as ‘La La La’) gently expanding the mixtape’s sonic palette.
Delving deeper into the record, Carδamo explains: “I wrote this mixtape with community in mind. It was a love-letter to collaboration as a whole. I attempted to do the same thing with the first body of music I ever created when I was 19, and it didn’t really go to plan, fallings out and what have you… Typical things you go through at a tender age. This new mixtape embodies the security and joy I’ve found in newer relationships forged with my ‘adult’ self, a freer person with much more self-confidence.”
