British Artist The Mess:Age Returns with ‘SACRIFICE’

We found ourselves writing about The Mess:Age back in 2024, celebrating ‘MR W.H.O’ as “resembling a passionate dive into retro-pop and rock, with some late 80s new wave influences”. That seems to be a foundational quality of the whole project, as the British troubadour returns with his latest effort, ‘SACRIFICE’. Penned by the human behind the moniker, ‘Ziggy’ Glen Brandon, the single showcases the London-based creative’s deep philosophical and existential reasoning.

His songs are drenched in doubts and truth about society at large, making them truly personal records steeped in contemporary imagery. From a sonic standpoint, references are much more nostalgic, with ‘SACRIFICE’ taking a slightly more pop-oriented approach. Think about AOR, and the anthemic, stadium-ready pop of the ’80s and ’90s. There’s a great deal of guitars in it, relatable melodies, and poignant motifs.

Delving deeper into his creative process, The Mess:Age explains: “I write alone, and always try to channel and grasp inspiration out of the ether and directly from godly sources. I like to stay unique regarding my approach to music, as The Mess:Age has a certain chemistry unlike other artists who tend to copy or sound like each other. I like to try my best to gather up my thoughts from the spiritual realms of reality.”
