We’ll admit, we hadn’t heard about Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet until today. Our bad: the American outfit is incredibly euphoric, charming and with a great deal of tongue-in-cheek lyricism. In fact, there’s a great deal of relatability in anything they release, be it in rebellious pop-punk anthems seen through a feminist perspective or lighter, romance-driven and playful efforts.
Whichever way you look at it, it’s obvious that Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet have clear ideas about where they are going, sharing striking, dynamic records perfectly fitting our eclectic cultural landscape. ‘Montclair’ is the strongest evidence of that. An uplifting, carefree piece, the single delves into the bubbly, spontaneous and love-filled adventures of a 20-year-old. The aural counterpoints follow the overarching ethos, with a polite pop-rock livery that particularly reminds us of No Doubt, among others.
Fournier’s lead vocals are both potent and expressive, especially when bundled into euphoric harmonies. Ben Shanblatt, Sophia Bondi, and bassist Noah Rosner complete the talented line-up. Speaking about ‘Montclair’, the New York-based group explain: “Our new single ‘Montclair’ is about chance encounters turning into a fun and sexy cross-country rollercoaster. It’s about spontaneity, taking chances, and finding excitement – even if it’s in suburban New Jersey.”
