Bonze Explores Pain and Escapism on Hypnotising Gem ‘Obliterate Me’

The keen reader will gladly remember Bonze, having appeared on our pages very recently. Writing about his previous release, ‘Out of My Hands’, we proudly declared: “a mindblowing musical output, a charming and emotional gooey made up of cutting-edge electronica and dark vocals.” We stand by our words: the British talent has developed quite a peculiar and ethereal style, speaking to the deepest corners of human consciousness – perhaps informed by his by-day vocation as a trained psychotherapist.

Now, Bonze unveils his latest effort, the intense and eerie fuzzy gem ‘Obliterate Me’. Before jumping into its lyricism, which is pretty complex and convoluted (a constant feature of the project) – let’s analyze its sonic settings: there’s something inherently magical in the way Bonze can blend hypnotising electronica and organic elements into an otherworldly, dynamic and transformative sound concept, the perfect framework for his nostalgic and dramatic vocals.

Lyrically, ‘Obliterate Me’ focuses on escapism towards adversities, exploring the lengths humans would go to avoid and escape pain. Bonze examines this charged theme by connecting it to his personal experience. As he explains: “When I was a young teenager, I found through listening to the 90’s rave genre (songs such as ‘Insomnia by Faithless’), that people used dance music to ‘obliterate’ their personal issues with dance music. There was a certain type of aggression and testing of boundaries to the scene that I identified with very early on.”
