It’s been precisely a year since Birkir Blær blessed his audience with a new record. Following up on last year’s ‘Leaders’, the Icelandic creative now returns with his latest effort ‘Go On’, a vibrant and uplifting gem that’s as playful as it is hard-hitting. Now based in Sweden, where he won Swedish Idol 2021, Blær seeks to reiterate his eclectic, multi-genre artistry, often balanced between pop, soul and R&B and framed in modern, catchy production solutions.
‘Go On’ is the perfect example of that. Steeped in contemporary funk and R&B grooves, the track is as bright and elegant as it could be, also incorporating a great deal of songwriting expertise. Steeped in personal experience and independence, the song resembles a fiery, potent call for empowerment and resilience, inspiring the listeners to ‘give it a try’ – something that’s ever challenging in our gloomy reality.
Written at an Icelandic writing camp called Airsongs, ‘Go On’ represents the latest chapter in Birkir’s dazzling musical career. Speaking about the record, he explains: “I’m not much into taking pictures, and I don’t want pictures where I’m just looking into the camera and smiling, that’s why the artwork is to show where I came from and the music to show where I’m going, I want to let the music speak for me.”
