Bill Diver’s Passionproject Shares Latest Album ‘Diver #1’

It’s rather hard to describe what Bill Diver’s Passionproject stands for. The American outfit champions a highly authentic and personal style, balanced over fuzzy sonic material, vintage keys, synth matter and a certain punk attitude. We’d describe them as ‘immense’, or, encompassing the universe, developing a giant sound that manages to deliver 30 years of music history in the space of three minutes. How could not be that way? Take for instance ‘Diver #1’, the band’s latest effort. It’s a hypnotising journey through celestial and abstract textures, indie-pop formulas and an introspective, metaphorical lyricism that’s as cryptic as its sonic counterpart.

Flicking through the album, one can catch a glimpse of Bill Diver’s Passionproject’s many personalities: from the mellow, modern electronica found in ‘in confidence’, to the lo-fi indie of ‘Griphoff’, passing through the indietronica of ‘Arrowhead’. There’s a certain eclecticism in the record, a sign that the band doesn’t try to enclose themselves in a box, instead freely exploring their creativity.

Lyrically, Bill Diver’s Passionproject reflects on our complex and nuanced reality, especially over the relationship between the internet and feelings of loss, loneliness and disconnect. A truly visionary artistry, in our opinion.
