Barják András Hypnotises Listeners with Kaleidoscopic Album ‘Looming Seasons’

Honestly, it’s not easy to write about ‘Looming Seasons’. It’s one of those records that have to be experienced first-hand, letting all of their eclecticism connect with the listeners’ deepest consciousness. Built as a bittersweet, kaleidoscopic offering, ‘Looming Seasons’ is first and foremost a striking look at its author’s wide-ranging artistry. Based in Sweden and originally from Hungary, Barják András is the talented human behind the project. A software developer by day, András also boasts extensive experience as a sound engineer and producer, something that’s rather evident in ‘Looming Seasons’.

Introduced by a haunting cinematic piece with gentle jazz influences – the aptly titled ‘Liminalities: Meditation (Part I) – the album slowly develops within organic instrumentation and meaningful songwriting, as ‘Dancing Foam’ proudly showcases. From there on, we are in deep waters; András’ inspiration hits us thick and fast, even caressing drum machines and gentle pop melodies. A guitar-based, slick approach is also present, with ‘Bleach’ giving an interesting example of it.

The Pink Floyd-esque ‘Fragile Cascades (Lullaby)’ and the more conventional ballad ‘Longest Day’ take the record to a close in hypnotising fashion, revealing a body of work that’s packed with rich aural imagery and lyrical wealth. What more could you wish for? Delving deeper into the album, Barják explains: “A journey through ages and seasons, diving deep into the endless darkness of Nordic winter to resurface into the everlasting brightness of Midsummer.”
