Axxi Oma Unveils Otherworldly, Experimental EP ‘Planets and Gods’

Doubling down on her otherworldly, feverish aesthetic, Ukrainian boundary-pushing creative Axxi Oma has recently unveiled a strikingly bold and ethereal body of work, ‘Planets and Gods’, an EP that showcases all of the project’s many nuances and bold sound design choices. Wrapped in experimental electronica and noisy textures, the record still carries a certain pop leniency, especially in its song-driven structures and Oma’s cathartic, luscious vocals.

The listening experience is unlike anything else we have experienced before; haunting and melancholic, yet euphoric and anthemic. Whichever way you look at it, ‘Planets of Gods’ is incredibly magnetic and gripping, a collection of pieces delivering a slice of escapism and sci-fi allure. Written and composed in the Calabrian town of Amantea, Axxi Oma drew inspiration from the local folklore and the highly suggestive natural beauty around her, penning a lyrically charged journey into a fictional non-religious society.

We certainly need to shout out Oma’s production skills; ‘Planet of Gods’ is truly hazy and ethereal, yet often counterpointed by dark, industrial beats. That’s a balance that works very well in this context, leaving ample space for Axxi’s spiritual, timeless vocals. Each song marks a chapter in the EP’s storyline, as the Ukrainian talent slowly unfurls diverse aspects of a mysterious fictional culture.
