Alexia Vegas Wonders About Intentions in ‘First Kiss (Your Love)’

We are glad to have discovered Alexia Vegas: emerging from New York, the young songstress has impressed us with her flourishing productivity, a sign that she’s dead set on developing a bright career. Debuting only last year, the talented newcomer has managed to find a sizeable audience on streaming services, not surprising after having experienced first-hand how relatable and deep her storytelling is. For instance, take ‘First Kiss (Your Love)’. The track delves into relationship territories – something we are all more than familiar with.

An experienced performer and songwriter, Alexia Vegas’s contemporary solo project might be young – but her career in the industry certainly isn’t. This knowledge is now channelled into artistic material we could describe as brooding and haunting, something that’s becoming quite a signature of the American newcomer – her productions are quite dark too, exploring nuanced electronic undertones and punchy beats. Vegas’ vocal tone is as evocative and luscious as you would expect, really conveying the conflicted lyricism so proudly championed by her.

Lyrically, ‘First Kiss (Your Love)’ recounts the doubts around a quick-developing fling, with the girl character in the story wondering if she’s taken advantage of. As Vegas explains: “The lyrics are romantic, but the driving synth music has a dark overtone that reflects the girl’s growing sense of disillusionment and suspicions about the boy’s intentions toward her.”
