Alana Balagot and The Trans Chorus of Los Angeles Send an Urgent Message on ‘You Can’t Erase Us’

Empowering trans voices and standing up against a divisive political landscape, ‘You Can’t Erase Us’ emerges from the creative minds of Alana Balagot and the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles.

Serving a very precise purpose and carrying a crucially urgent message, ‘You Can’t Erase Us’ emerges from the toxic and divisive political discourse of modern-day America. Empowering trans voices and standing up against an aggressive presidential administration, the song has been penned by Los Angeles-based composer and producer Alana Balagot in response to an attempt to erase and silence the trans community and its role in LGBTQ+ history.

In particular, ‘You Can’t Erase Us’ was motivated by a precise instance of that. As we are told: “In February 2025, the National Park Service removed references to transgender people from the Stonewall National Monument website, replacing ‘LGBTQ+’ with ‘LGB.’ This was an attempt to erase the work done by trans women, Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Miss Major, among others, from the queer rights movement.”

Joining Balagot on the record is the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles (TCLA), the nation’s premiere all Trans-Identified Chorus, consisting of Transgender, Non-Binary, Intersex, Gender-Non-Conforming and Gender-Fluid individuals. Their performance on ‘You Can’t Erase Us’ is absolutely stellar, elevating Alana’s dynamic and cinematic production into a loud and bold anthem of resistance. For anyone interested, there’s also an upcoming music video, produced by Alana and her wife Rebecca Louisell, featuring choreography by Jia Miramontes.
