It’s been a while since we wrote about Melbourne-based creative Sunset Salore. In fact, it’s been since October 2024, when we celebrated her EP ‘Love Kills the Monsters’ as “offering a wider glimpse of the project’s nuanced and elegant artistry”. Since then, Salore has kept silent in terms of original music, although her singing career appears to have bloomed regardless. Well, that silence has now ended, with Sunset Salore sharing a cover of Tame Impala’s ‘Dracula’.
Recorded live at Humble Studios in Melbourne, ‘Dracula’ sees Sunset Salore stripping back the original in favour of a deeply haunting and gloomy acoustic rendition, a version that, to be fair, does align the song more with its title. Sunset Salore’s malleable vocals are incredibly nuanced and expressive, here layered on sumptuous keys performed by the artist herself. It’s a relatively simple record, but one that works very well and that showcases all of the eclectic artistry the project has to offer.
Marking Sunset Salore’s comeback release since the aforementioned EP, ‘Dracula’ acts as a little appetiser for brand new music set to be unveiled in 2027. Delving into the reasoning behind the choice of this particular cover, the Australian talent explains: “It was opportunistic, because the snippet posted on social media quickly got almost 300k views and people were asking for the full version. It was a natural next step.” We are excited to see her back with original material next year… It’s bound to be a delicious year for Sunset Salore.
