We have never encountered a singer-songwriting sat on a wooden fence on a big Wyoming ranch, but if we were to, that person would probably sounds a lot like Johnny Ranck. Take the most wholesome Americana you can find, and tinge it with acoustic Folk imagery and American West mythology. Smashed it all together, and the result is rather close to Ranck’s latest eponymous debut EP.
Packed with five like-minded episodes, ‘Johnny Ranck’ welcomes listeners with the lovable ‘Baby, Come Back’, exposing listeners to honky-tonk pianos and melodic fiddles. Lead single ‘Can You Feel the Buffalo’ adventures onto bittersweet territories, unveiling a tale of nostalgia and evocative resolve. ‘When Will I Stop Cryin’ (Over You)’ is your classic country love song, playful yet sensible. ‘Make You Mine’ follows in the same footsteps, just before ‘Winners and Losers’ brings the EP to a triumphant and introspective close.
Based and raised in Utah, Ranck spent a fair amount of time in Wyoming growing up, working on a cattle ranch in Wyoming’s Bridger Valley. Those memories are all still with him, now finding a comfortable artistic home in his music. To celebrate, Johnny will bring his signature high-energy live performances to regional Utah venues, including upcoming stops at O’Shucks Bar & Grill and Park City Brewing.
