Hitlist Crown a Breakthrough Year with New Single ‘Dirtbrain’

Carefree and fun, but also purposeful and inspiring, ‘Dirtbrain’ is Hitlist’s rebellious answer to our dystopian society. References are far and wide, with punk, funk and nu-metal all thrown into an irresistible aural cauldron

It’s been quite a year for Hitlist! Emerging from Leeds’ bubbling art scene, the young British group has already caught the attention of many, performing all around England and even going as far as touching Iceland on an upcoming Reykjavik date. Their debut EP ‘Human Cereal’ was unveiled back in April, giving us all a taste of Hitlist’s guitar-powered eclecticism and sonic fury. Recently, the band has returned with a brand new offering, ‘Dirtbrain’.

In it, it’s fun to observe a lighter artistic direction taking shape. If ‘Human Cereal’ flourished on grit and gloominess, the new single appears to embrace a more indie-coded livery, although one that still maintains Hitlist’s raw fierceness and boundless energy. References are far and wide, with punk, funk and nu-metal all thrown into an irresistible aural cauldron. The record also ships with a B-side, ‘Alliser Thorne’

Delving deeper into the lyrical ethos that propels the track, Hitlist explain: “a montage of modern ennui, slacker heaven and stylish nonchalance: lying on your bed restless in your going out clothes, left on read again, but… kind of over it? Our anthem for dancing, driving and shrugging off the losers in your life.” Carefree and fun, but also purposeful and inspiring, ‘Dirtbrain’ is Hitlist’s rebellious answer to our dystopian society.
