‘Never Ending Narcissist’ is so good that the author of this article (who’s talking about himself in third person…) saved it in his personal playlist. How could it not happen? The song is both playful and electrifying, a malleable alt-pop cut that oscillates between sonic nostalgia and contemporary elegance. PEARL‘s vocals are a joy to listen to, dreamy and hypnotic, yet also rather playful and welcoming. ‘Never Ending Narcissist’ shares a catchy melodic twist, a masterclass in pop songwriting.
The songwriting… a big part of what makes ‘Never Ending Narcissist’ so special is the way PEARL is able to delve into seemingly dark emotional imagery and then turn it around, penning a sarcastic, self-critical anthem towards the part of us that really never stops believing in something. As the London-based songstress explains: “I think we all have a Never Ending Narcissist: a person, a job, a dream that we keep choosing, hoping eventually it’ll choose us back.”
On this occasion, PEARL teamed up with producer Matt Ingram (Florence + The Machine, Lianne La Havas, Laura Marling) at Urchin Studios, crafting a single that will no doubt catch the industry’s attention, just like the project’s other releases have done. Boasting millions of streams and an ever-growing audience, PEARL is a popstar in the making.
