In times of moral and societal crisis, art often comes to the rescue. That’s what Aryn Myko strives for, offering a debut single that calls for unity and shared love, ‘U.N.I.’. He does so with a fantastic R&B imprint, the sort of track that oscillates between mainstream pop and soulful allure. In fact, we do find it quite nostalgic in a way, carrying some of the elements that one would find in early noughties R&B offerings.
Hailing from Nashville, the talented creative, multi-instrumentalist and producer makes his debut on Monk Records, showcasing not only his sonic vision but also his malleable, epic vocals. We love how ‘U.N.I.’ eventually explodes into an epic chorus, a feature that gifts the piece a keen cinematic flair. Standing for ‘you and I’, ‘U.N.I.’ is the celebration of Aryn Myko as a rising global powerhouse. It’s just a matter of time till the industry reckons with it.
Delving deeper into the lyrical ethos that propels the record, we are told: “‘U.N.I.” is a song about difference and the smallness of it. Religion, politics, geography, sexuality, race, and the private struggles nobody sees from the outside: the song holds all of it up, then sets it down. What is underneath is the only thing that was ever load-bearing, which is each other”.
