Despite ‘3X5’ being Gina Wilder‘s debut effort, her career is far from a debuting artist. In fact, the American songstress was recently nominated for Songwriter Achievement of the Year at the prestigious Josie Music Awards, in Nashville, a sign that the industry has already taken notice of her musical qualities. ‘3×5’ is the perfect example of that, a meaningful Country gem wrapped in heartwarming tones.
Gina Wilder’s vocals certainly steal the show, here showcasing their evocative quality and unmatched elegance. The vibrant production is courtesy of Abbey Loren, one of Wilder’s frequent collaborators. From a thematic standpoint, ‘3X5’ takes a hard look at the impact of modern technology on social interactions and collective unity, eventually warning listeners not to lose sight of each other. This often requires actively reaching out to people, something that we have perhaps forgotten.
Delving deeper into the lyrical ethos that propels the song, Wilder explains: “The brick of tech can be a heavy one. Whether we are working, communicating or pure entertainment. This song portrays an emptiness felt on the other side of a relationship in which a device feels all-consuming. At the end of the day, we all want to be seen and heard. It’s challenging to be sensitive around others unless you have intentions to do so. I really enjoy the simpler times… when tech wasn’t so demanding and distracting.”
